This morning I was reading news from one of my favorite soccer blogs dirty tackle, that Usain Bolt wants to play soccer. There is no question dude has got athletic skills (mainly fast running skills) but I don’t know if he has football skills… Manchester United Football skills at that. Here is what Bolt says about it in his autobiography:
“Ideally, if I was to play football, I’d sign for my favorite team — Manchester United. People say it’s not realistic but nobody has seen me play so you never know. If Alex Ferguson saw me in one of those charity matches he might think I could replace Ryan Giggs.”
The Gaurdian explained the lifetime Man U supporter is serious about playing.
I ask about his ambitions. Ultimately, he says, he’d love to make a go of playing football professionally. He’s being deadly serious. One of the perks of being Usain Bolt is that sporting stars love to meet him, so whenever he’s travelling and there’s time, he tries to train with a top football team. Last year it was Manchester United, a few days ago it was Bayern Munich. He’s still carrying a copy of the French sporting newspaper L’Equipe, which features a spread on his football skills and praise from Bayern manager Louis van Gaal. He shows me a photo of himself with his arm wrapped round the dwarfed 6ft German forward Miroslav Klose. “If I keep myself in shape, I can definitely play football at a high level,” he says.
Here is some footage of a recent trip Bolt made to Bayern Munich FC and there’s a quick shot of his “football skills”.

I caught this story over on The Fader about Usain Bolt adopting a baby cheetah while in Kenya. Then check Usain sorta racing a cheetah…
The Lightning has been taking a break from JA to hang out in Kenya for a few days, where he has “already impressed local children with his football skills, and become an honorary Maasai warrior,” according to the BBC, further proving he is our second most admired jedi knight/sensai/dream date slightly after Barack Obama. But Bolt’s moved up like 18 notches on our list after his recent adoption of A. Baby. Cheetah… as part of a conservation effort focusing on sustaining the environment in Africa via the Long Run, a new campaign he is launching. Appropriately, he christened the cheetah “Lightning Bolt,” and we immediately began singing the Vybz Kartel verse “BOLT / LIGHTNING BOLT,”

Usain Bolt’s feats in Berlin are now cemented in history. A segment of the old Berlin wall has been graced with Bolt’s image, commemorating the world records he set this past week. Check out the details below…
Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt has been honoured by the city of Berlin which has given him an original segment of the Berlin Wall - nearly three tons of it.
Bolt, who broke world records in winning gold medals in the 100 and 200 metres, was presented with the piece of wall at a small ceremony yesterday, the final day of the World Championships.
The section is 3.6 metres (12 feet) high and weighs 2.7 metric tons. It will be delivered to Bolt’s training camp in Jamaica by a special company….
Check out the full story here: Bolt gets piece of Berlin Wall.
I gotta say it though, that’s not really the best portrait. I’m not that only one who feels that way, either.
Anyway, check out a video of the ceremony after the jump…

BBCCaribbean.com has put together a nice summary of the dominance of Caribbean teams at this year’s Track & Field championships. Check out an excerpt below…
…The peerless Bolt, who turned 23 years old on Friday, broke both his individual world records - in the 100 and 200 metres - and left the world grasping and gasping for superlatives as attention turned rightly to Jamaican performances on the track and field.
But this was no one man-show as, after six days of this nine-day event, Jamaica led the gold-medal count with five.
That was one more than the United States, two of whose winners have come from Caribbean-born athletes…
For the full story, click here: The Caribbean Party in Berlin.
All even more fitting, since the Jamaican men just wrapped up another gold in the 4×100 final. Check the video after the jump…

Fernando Garcia-Guereta covered a documentary on Jamaican runners just before the Olympics in 08. Here is a snippet of the article that the Jamaican Gleaner did on “Why do Jamaicans Run So Fast?”…
With a ‘little feeling’ that something big was going to happen at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, Spanish music producer Fernando Garcia-Guereta shifted gears from the studio and on to the track with his debut documentary Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast?
Filming months before the Olympics and continuing the journey from Beijing and back, the 61-minute documentary is the only non-American film nominated at this year’s American Black Film Festival.
