I mentioned late last year that Jimmy Cliff had earned a nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
The nomination matured to an induction earlier this year, and the folks at FADER TV took the time to discuss the distinction and his career on the whole.
Check out the video below…
In Living Color’s “Hey Mon” parody of the stereotype that all Jamaicans have more than one job takes on a whole new meaning when you look at Jimmy Cliff’s résumé: He’s a roots reggae icon, actor in the Jamaican epic The Harder They Come, a doctorate recipient by the University of the West Indies and a newly inducted member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He rolled through the FADER offices to discuss his monumental career. Get schooled on the rude boy Rihanna overlooked.

A while back, in passing, I mentioned this show going on in the UK, but had no idea it was now playing in Toronto until I checked out Ian’s page. Check out the details below…
Based on the iconic film that launched Jimmy Cliff and reggae music onto the world stage, The Harder They Come tells the story of a country boy who makes for the bright lights of Kingston, Jamaica. With a head full of songs – including “You Can Get it if You Really Want”, “Many Rivers To Cross”, “Higher and Higher”, “Rivers of Babylon” and “The Harder They Come” – he dreams of becoming a reggae star. When the harsh reality of the music scene drives him into a fast and furious life as an outlaw, he would rather die than give up his dream!
The show runs until the end of this week, through August 23rd, so if you’re in the area be sure to make it out.
For more info on the show and to purchase tickets, click here: The Harder They Come @ The Canon Theatre, Toronto.
Also, Ian’s got some images from Caribana up. Check them out here: Caribana 2009: Wrap-Up in Images Part 1 | Caribana 2009: Wrap-Up in Images Part 2.

Powerful stuff. Gotta love that he give props to Nas, Nelly, Usher & Mary J. That man definitely stays on top of all things music. And that The Harder They Come musical in the UK? I’m hating on y’all over there for that one. To listen to this week’s full program, click here.
Also, I felt it only right that, since we’re on the subject of Mr. Cliff and The Harder They Come, I’d share with you my favorite scene from the movie. Check out out after the jump…
