Made in Queens

Made In Queens is a documentary the appeared in that Edinburgh International Film Festival back in ‘08. It’s about some kids from Queens who created portable sound systems on their bikes. I’m surprised I didn’t catch wind of this earlier, anyway check the trailer and see if it gets you interested.

Soundclass: The evolution of the soundsystem

So I recently saw this 5 part documentary that talks about the evolution of the Jamaican soundsystem and its global influence on other music forms like UK Garage and Hip-Hop music (check out this post on the soundsystem in the UK for another perspective). Its definitely worth peeping… check for cameos from Kool Herc and Grand Master Flash.

A History Of Sound Systems.

The folks from BBC 1Xtra recently put up a nice little podcast on the history of sound systems in the UK. A lot of the history also applies in the US, so it’s a really interesting listen. Check out the audio below…
