Jack it up selector! The Heatwave cram the biggest UK hits to come out of Jamaica into one crazy mix: 50 years + 83 tunes x 73 minutes = approximately five million rewinds. These songs have been pulled up, wheeled, rewound and replayed literally MILLIONS of times – in bedrooms, house parties, blues dances, nightclubs and raves throughout the UK.
To celebrate 50 years of Jamaican independence, The Heatwave’s quickfire insanity-inducing DJ style is applied to half a century’s worth of classic tracks. 50 years of Jamaican sounds hyping UK ravers. How many times will you rewind this mix?
Not to be outdone, Mr. Vegas has assembled an all-star group of djs for a remix of his hit “Sweet Jamaica.” Check out the video below….
Happy 50th Birthday Jamaica! Sweet Jamaica” just got alot more flavor. “Sweet Jamaica”, has a whole new set of names attached to it and an all star video to prove it.
Joining Mr Vegas, Shaggy and Josey Wales on “The Voices of Sweet Jamaica” is Shaggy’s fellow Grammy winner, Beenie Man, rising star Christopher Martin, foundation deejay U-Roy and dancehall super group T.O.K. , as well as the ‘good’ gyal Ce’Cile and international performer Barrington Levy. When you add in Tony Curtis and Singing Melody (one half of Jamaica’s favorite harmony group, LUST) as well as Marcia Griffiths, Cocoa Tea, Freddie McGregor and Leroy ‘Heptones’ Sibbles the “The Voices of Sweet Jamaica” are a virtual who’s who of the nation’s musical legacy.
Via The Heatwave, comes this hour-long starter kit on Dancehall Reggae for all those who may need it. This follows up their celebration of Sleng Teng’s anniversary a few weeks back. Great way to start the week, I say.

I couldn’t quite keep it to one tune per year as I was also trying to make sure that all the key artists from this period were represented. I think I did pretty well in the end but I’m sure I left out some notable vocalists. I KNOW that there are hundreds of BIG TUNES that didn’t get featured.
I suppose there’s always someone who gets left out at a birthday party. Big up Lady Saw, Kiprich, Cecile, TOK, Terry Ganzie, Serani, Spice and all the other artists whose invites got lost in the post.
So here’s The Heatwave’s history lesson aka bashment birthday party. 25 years of dancehall. As Benjamin points out at some point, this is one for the iPod.
I don’t know what can compare to the original Joy Ride Riddim, its possibly because it has a nostalgic value to me.
Well Heatwave posted a compilation of the Joyride Riddim remakes that have come out in the past year. See which one you like the best…

The Heatwave released the “Early Warming Mixtape”. The mix builds up with a good summer vibe to it.
This is a mix I originally started work on back in April or May when we had our first burst of summery weather in London, hence the Early Warming name.
It was meant to be a spring thing but then the weather got shit again and I thought there needed to be some more sunshine before I put it out…
Anyway it’s 45 minutes of summertime, good vibes dancehall and laidback one drop reggae, perfect for winding along to in your car, in the park or wherever really.
