I’m all for Reggae artists crossing over and getting a piece of the American market. Demarco’s new track “Show it”, has that potential to cross over but it doesn’t have many elements of “Reggae” to it. I was trying to tag it and I just couldn’t put reggae down for it - its more of an R&B track to me. The production is very R&B as well as the language they use its very much American (note the blaring use of “shorty”). As it stands for an R&B track it speaks for itself…. as a reggae well ummmm no. Check the video below.
It’s been a minute since I posted one of these…check out the details below…

Via The Heatwave, comes this hour-long starter kit on Dancehall Reggae for all those who may need it. This follows up their celebration of Sleng Teng’s anniversary a few weeks back. Great way to start the week, I say.

I couldn’t quite keep it to one tune per year as I was also trying to make sure that all the key artists from this period were represented. I think I did pretty well in the end but I’m sure I left out some notable vocalists. I KNOW that there are hundreds of BIG TUNES that didn’t get featured.
I suppose there’s always someone who gets left out at a birthday party. Big up Lady Saw, Kiprich, Cecile, TOK, Terry Ganzie, Serani, Spice and all the other artists whose invites got lost in the post.
So here’s The Heatwave’s history lesson aka bashment birthday party. 25 years of dancehall. As Benjamin points out at some point, this is one for the iPod.
Demarco and Suku go back and forth with each over at Coppershot Studio while talking about the track Love a come down. There’s also a random cameo from Timberlee on crutches as well.
I’ll just let the music speak for itself on this one. Check it out below…

Labor day weekend is here, and along with it comes a plethora of different happenings in and around NYC, culminating with the big (huge) West Indian Day Parade on Eastern Parkway this Monday.
If you’re in the area, here’s a short synopsis of some of the good thing’s going on. I tried to fit as most as I could in here, but of course, I can’t get it all. Check it all out…you might run into us at some of these….
