Nathan Clark Passes Away at 94.

Monday, July 11th, 2011

In the Caribbean, Clarks‘ Footwear is as common as the palm trees. The popularity of the brand is due in large part to the vision of Nathan Clark, great-grandson of the company’s founder. This past week, Mr. Clark passed away at 94, leaving behind a legacy of footwear loved the world over.

The folks at GQ recognized. Check their writeup on the pioneer of footwear below…

The iconic desert boot as we know it today, worn by everyone from Steve McQueen to the dude on the subway next to you this morning, wouldn’t have existed without the passion of Nathan Clark, who died on June 23rd at the age of 94. Clark was the great-grandson of the founder of Clarks and he developed an admirable zeal for the lace-up ankle boots worn by desert fighters in Burma during World War II. The suede material and crepe sole of the boot wasn’t an immediate hit with the Brits upon Clark’s return from fighting, but the Americans loved them; most notably the, ahem, lack of maintenance and comfort factor…

Reebok Basquiat

Friday, June 12th, 2009

A lot of sneaker companies have be going retro for a while, but its never enough to just bring back a classic shoe there needs to be a twist. Reebok has just re-released its 80′s Ex O Fit with a Jean Michel Basquiat inspired design. The combo makes sense, an 80′s classic shoe blended with an 80′s icon.

Details have not been forgotten with the Basquiat’s trade mark crown placed on the top lace loop as a functional ornament. Crisp white midsoles are used on the black model while the white model uses classic gum sole. Currently available through Atmos.

At least you know where he gets it from….

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

I was reading this article this morning, and thought to myself that the woman in question here HAD to be Caribbean. Turns out, I was right. The story, in short….

If there was any question of where (British Olympic Sprinter Simeon) Williamson gets his speed, this article provides the answer: He gets it from his grandmother, 78-year-old Pearline Williamson, who had her purse stolen by a young woman recently, only to run her down and get the purse back. Pearline explains:

“The thief must have thought I was an easy touch because I’m elderly. …

“When she took my purse I had to do something so I ran after her and grabbed her as hard as I could.

“She said she hadn’t taken it at first, so I shook the life out of her until she finally gave it back. …

“It makes me so mad when people try to take your things,” she said. “Back in my day you had to work so hard for every penny.”

78!!! She does not play!! Let that be a lesson to anyone reading this: Do not mess with a Jamaican woman’s money. No matter how old she is.
