Since Omar already posted a lot of stuff on Shirley Chisholm already I thought I should follow up with this story…

A group of elected officials in Brooklyn are pushing to get the state office building in the Fort Greene neighborhood renamed for Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman to serve in Congress and to seek the Democratic presidential nomination. She served in Congress from 1969 until 1983 and died in 2005 at age 80.

It would be nice to see a dedication to Chisholm in BK just like we have in Harlem for Adam Clayton Powell Jr…. and maybe she’ll even get a street name and statue too.

Check out more about the push here.
