What a night, eh?
I just wanted post some of the reactions to President-Elect Obama’s victory, from around the Caribbean. Check out some of the quotes and articles below…
JAMAICA GLEANER: OBAMA GIVES JAMAICANS A NEW OPTION
“The other day someone said he would lose because this wasn’t the time for a black man, but I said the time was 500 years ago,” Semaj said.
“His election would be good for the black man if for no other reason than the black man will say, if he (Obama) did it, then I can do it.”
BBC CARRIBBEAN: US-CARIBBEAN RELATIONS
“Yes the U.S plays a big role in Belize but based on their debates and ads, I just think that Obama is the better man for the job! It’s loud and clear, it’s not about black nor white, just really think that Obama will play a big role in the Caribbean.”
STABROEK NEWS: EXPECTATIONS OF AN OBAMA PRESIDENCY
“So we might conclude that at this time in US-Caribbean relations, the question may not be so much what will be the US’s attitude under a possible President Obama. But rather how should we in Caricom reassess our various positions on the possibilities for positive intervention in the American process, seeking in a persistently pragmatic way to find channels of influence, more effective than we have been able to do in the past”
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO EXPRESS: AMERICANS READY FOR CHANGE, SAYS DOOKERAN
“It is a historic moment for the United States and you know we have always said when the United States sneezes, the Caribbean catches the cold,” Persad-Bissessar told the Express last night.
Persad-Bissessar said Obama’s success was evidence of the will of the people and the want for change.
“I think he is an endorsement of the democratic process and the will of the people. What we are seeing is true democracy at work,” Persad-Bissessar said.”
